This point in the doctrinal basis is exactly what prevented me from being a CU committee member. I was asked to join, but I refused to sign. It led to (a) the UCCF worker telling me to stop being so silly and just give up being a catholic and sign, and (b) me being grilled by the existing committee, the new committee and some local church ministers for an hour or more and getting VERY pissed off by the end of it. This episode pretty much made me hate the UCCF and want nothing to do with it. And you know what the result of all this was? I wasn't allowed to be a committee member, but I was still made worship leader for the CU, arguably a much more influential position over the spiritual life and beliefs of the CU!

Sam, interesting article. Still haven't really thought through what I think, but I've moved a long way away from where I was in my CU days. In some respects as well.

Dave, thanks for the link. Doesn't really explain why UCCF chose to use that language in that point. Or why the Evangelical Alliance don't use that language either.

Anyway I think what I believe regarding UCCF has been negatively coloured by my experiences over the past few years. But I won't go into that now anyway, it's getting late and I need to get on! Thanks for your comment anyway.

It's not really UCCF that I have a problem with, recently I've been feeling a bit disenfranchised with evangelicalism in general. But more on that some other time.

Interesting thoughts.
Have you seen this comparison of the CofE's articles and the UCCF basis?
http://chriswatsonlee.wordpress.com/2007/06/04/summary-reformed-theology-and-the-church-of-england/

I'm not so sure you see a narrow definition of a Christian in the UCCF doctrinal basis of fellowship, but rather a broad statement of evangelical faith that encompasses the baptist and the Anglican, the charismatic and the cessationist, the complementarian and the egalatarian, the Calvinist and the Arminian (where the CofE articles are very much Calvinist)... and so on... for the purpose of a particular ministry objective, mission on campus to build the local churches.
