Good Friday

We went to a Good Friday service today. It was called “An Hour at the Cross”, looking at Psalm 22. It put me in quite a contemplative mood… well, that and having to study for the Moore Course exam we’re doing tomorrow morning! So I thought I’d post something up contemplative.

Who has believed our message
and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.
Like one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
smitten by him, and afflicted.

But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

Isaiah 53:1-5

Some interesting verses to think about over the Easter period!

I’ve got a new book in the post called Pierced for Our Transgressions which will also make interesting Easter reading. Hope you have a good one! I’ll update again soon.

  1. Good luck with the exam, Phill!

  2. We went to a similar service yesterday – very helpful … My brain is now working overtime (making up for the rest of the year) thinking about the implications of the cross!

Excellent book choice by the way … I know Steve one of the authors (Ooooh, get you with your claim to fame) and he’s been telling me all about it – I’d be interested to know what you think!

  3. Thanks Simon – it went OK thanks! Hopefully we’ve passed, we both managed to answer all the questions, although I don’t think we did fantastically well…

I will post up a review when I’ve read the book, Joe! It looked really good. Funnily enough, someone who writes another blog which I read said that they knew one of the authors! It looks good anyway.
