Quick update on photos

I’ve used Yahoo! Photos to store pictures for a while now. Any photos taken on our camera would get uploaded there. Unfortunately, Yahoo! Photos is closing. Which means that I haven’t uploaded any pictures there recently… I have been uploading photos to Facebook, but the problem with Facebook is that you can’t download the original images (I don’t think you can get at the originals even if you uploaded the images in the first place). Also, I want to give people access to the albums who aren’t on Facebook.

Anyway, Yahoo! also runs Flickr, another photo-sharing website, and they’ve also provided a photo migration service from Yahoo! Photos. So, I’ve decided to migrate all my albums in Yahoo! over to Flickr, and I will let you know once that’s all complete, and give the URL to access my photos.

One good thing about Flickr is that I believe there’s a Facebook application which integrates it with Flickr… that would be useful ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I’d be interested to hear how you get on with Flickr actually. Although I’ve not been taking many photos just recently I have been increasingly aware of the limitations of my own MiniGallery system. Although it’s really simple and easy to use, it doesn’t have all the sparkly bits that other more advanced systems do, and it would be nice to have everything linked together so that images automatically appear on Facebook and my blog and suchlike, which at the moment just seems like too much hard work for me to program myself! So please do let us all know how you get on with Flickr, and maybe I’ll join you…

  2. Yeah, I think hosting photos yourself these days is … well, it’s a lot less effort to let someone else do it! Particularly if you’ve coded up your own Gallery script. I’ve also just done a quick Google and apparently there’s a WordPress plugin for Flickr as well, making blog / photo integration really easy.

So yes, I will update when I have used it for a bit ๐Ÿ™‚
