I’m not sure what kind of crops they are though, but still.

  • College update

I thought I’d give you another general life update now, rather than a general weekend style update, as I will do that tomorrow.

So: at the end of my last post on the subject, I had been accepted by the Church for training but hadn’t been offered a place at college.

Well, I’ve now been offered a place and have accepted that offer. Essentially that is still conditional on Ministry Division (i.e. the central church division responsible to these things) to write to the college confirming funding, but I think that is all in hand.

Anyway. What we need to do now is find somewhere to live (we’re hoping to move some time in mid-August). I also need to hand my notice in at work.

But in general I just thought I’d update that things are definitely moving forward, and it’s … still quite strange! It still hasn’t really sunk in yet that we’re moving yet, although it is beginning to. I don’t think it will really sink in until we actually move to be honest. It will be sad to leave friends in Colchester, but at the same time we’ll be back here quite a lot so it won’t be like we’re disappearing off the face of the earth 🙂 And Southgate is not far.

Right, I think that’s enough rambling for now!

Well I don’t know how old this thing is but it’s pretty old. I’m not even sure what to call it – I think it was part of a conveyer belt kind of system from the quarry down to the river. Either way from this angle I think it looks quite imposing!

Of peace and tranquility. As you can see in the photograph, this place isn’t exactly isolated but it’s a fair way away from houses and so on, quite high up so you don’t get disturbed from town.

I think this picture is quite evocative of that!

  • Badgers!

Badgers near Fordham, a set on Flickr.

Last night Liz, a friend of ours from church, took us out to see the badgers near Fordham. It was amazing.

We picked her up and then drove out there (it’s not far on from Fordham). We parked as close as we could get, and then wheeled her the last bit of the trail. It was definitely worth it!

I hope these photos capture some of what it was like. You’ll have to zoom in a fair bit I’m afraid (we couldn’t get *that* close).

Badgers are amazing creatures, really beautiful and surprisingly graceful when they move! I was a bit surprised actually. Definitely a great experience and one I’d like to do again sometime though.

Well technically this is sepia but still. I think I’m getting better at knowing what would make a good B&W photo. I do love B&W, it gives a great chance to focus on form and tone rather than colour!

  • Easter and stuff

It’s getting late and I’m very tired, so this will be the quickest ever summary of the past few days:

    • Good Friday. Went to an hour at the cross in the afternoon. Phil went off to stay with her parents overnight, in the evening I went off to the pub with Tom and then ended up back at his for a cocktail party with Clif and a few of her friends.
    • Saturday. Did a few chores in the morning. Spent the afternoon on the walk to Wivenhoe, as it was such a beautiful day. Got a few good pictures. In the evening it was Doctor Who, then Phil got home and we had dinner and watched Doctor Who again. (Well, I watched it again, she hadn’t seen it, so I thought it only fair to let her watch it ;)) Doctor Who was brilliant but more on that some other time.
    • Sunday. Service in the morning, then chillaxing a little bit in the afternoon, then out to the evening service. Then we came back home and watched “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, which I hadn’t seen since… well, I was a child. I enjoyed it – very much a fun, action-y film!
    • Monday. Went on a good long walk with Phil to West Bergholt, which took up most of the day, then came back home and Anne-Marie came round for dinner.

All in all it was a really nice bank holiday 🙂 I hope next weekend is just as good!

I’d post up something about Easter here but given that it’s late and I’m going to fall asleep if I keep doing this, I won’t 😉 Some other time…

  • Day 245: You take the high road…

Well, this sign here indicates no less than three ways you can go! To the left, to the right, or what is essentially behind the viewpoint of the photograph.

The sign is in Springfield, Chelmsford by the way. (Random fact: apparently the rector of Springfield Parish Church founded Springfield MA in the USA, found that out today…)
