  • Working on installers

Well, I’ve been working on an installer for X-Blog this evening. It’s actually coming along quite well, I don’t think it will be too long before I can release it to the general public!

It’s been so hot this week that I haven’t really felt like doing anything, but I have heard that it’s meant to be a bit cooler this weekend. I think the heat is frying my brain… and my driving skills: last night I had a bit of a collision with a bollard on my way into the car park! I scraped the side of my car a bit. It’s not that bad, but just something else that I’ll have to sort out. Ah well.

Not much else to say for the time being, so au revoir for now…

  • Bowling for Columbine

Well, I watched ‘Bowling for Columbine’ yesterday evening round at 39 Claremont Road. It was really good… I know some people think Michael Moore does twist the truth a bit to support his own point of view (certainly that may be the case), but in general I think I agree: America does seem to be a very paranoid nation. Also, they seem to have easy access to weapons.

I just think the arguments for allowing citizens to ‘bear arms’ are ridiculous – if you own a gun, even if you are a responsible person the temptation is there to use it. And, of course, suppose a child of six finds it and doesn’t know what it does… things can happen. It does make me annoyed, but what can you do? – I’m not a citizen of the USA, so it’s not really my place to do anything.

Anyway. I’m going to a piano recital this afternoon at the Arts Centre in Colchester – Beethoven Sonatas and Debussy 10 Preludes. Should be good!

    All for now…

  • Hello!

Hello there! I now have the internet at the flat πŸ™‚ I am currently writing this blog from my own computer, it’s rather nice… after a few phone calls to our ISP, it’s now working fine!

Um, I haven’t done much interesting recently, not note-worthy anyway, so I’ll leave it there…

  • League of Gentlemen: Apocalypse

I went to the cinema last night with Alex and John to see the new ‘League of Gentlemen’ film. I was actually very impressed! Considering that I didn’t like Series 3 much, and the Christmas special wasn’t all that and a bag of potato chips, it was all the more impressive! They’d gone back to series 1 / series 2 style of actually being funny and not just dark… all in all, a good watch!

Not much else to say at the moment, so all for now…

  • X&Y

On Saturday, I received my copy of ‘X&Y’, the new album by Coldplay. I’m still in the process of re-listening to it, but my first impressions were on the first couple of listens were that it’s really good! As with all Coldplay stuff it will take a while to get into, but it’s worth it! And don’t worry those of you who listen to the radio – ‘Speed of Sound’ isn’t the best song on there, there’s plenty more good songs to get your teeth into πŸ™‚

Anyway. I didn’t do much over the weekend! Saturday I went into town to get a few bits and pieces. In the afternoon it was Phil P and Anne-Marie’s birthday Barbeque. It was good, despite the fact that as with every BBQ in England it’s the law for it to be windy and rainy! – it was lovely for the first hour or two though.

On Sunday, again – didn’t do a lot! In the evening we had a house warming party with a few people round. If you didn’t get invited, don’t worry – the number of chairs we have in the house kind of limited the number a lot! Maybe we should have another house warming party next week, I enjoyed this one… πŸ™‚

    Anyway, all for now.

  • Moved in!

Well, I am now all moved in to the new place. Furniture has been put up, other things unpacked… it’s good!

The drive to work this morning was surprisingly painless as well. It was busy, but not as busy as I thought it was going to be. In fact, it was definitely not as busy as I thought it was going to be – almost normal levels of traffic! Perhaps if you leave before a certain time it’s not too bad, or maybe it’s just that side of Colchester.

Anyway. I went to see ‘Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’ yesterday with Paul and Philippa. I have to say it was good, despite episodes I and II being pretty poor, this one had a good plot and set it up nicely for the original trilogy. I liked the way it got a bit more retro towards the end, what with using the original Darth Vader’s voice and the original style of set. Very dark plot, but of course we all know how it turns out πŸ™‚

Anyway, that’s all from me. Phill awaaaaaaay…

  • Moving in!

I just wanted to write a quick post to say that I have now finally moved into the new place in Colchester πŸ™‚

It does seem a bit weird at the moment, I don’t think the fact that I’ve moved has actually sunk in. No doubt it will soon!

Anyway. Because the internet hasn’t been enabled at the new place yet (I don’t think we’ll have it until this Saturday), I might not update very much. I will have the net at work, though. And at Philippa’s place, if I can go round there (I’m actually writing this blog from Philippa’s laptop at her place).

Not much else to say really, other than – if you fancy popping round for a cup of tea, let me know πŸ™‚

  • Hours of Fun?

Probably not – or at least, in my case, only if you’re really sad. There are many translation services available on the internet. Most of them aren’t that great. However, they can be quite fun… check out Google Translation, and type in the web addresses of some well-known websites. Translate from English to German (or French, or any language of your preference).

Try and decipher the results… alternatively you can translate phrases. “He’s not the messiah, he’s a very naughty boy” translates to “Er ist nicht das messiah, er ist ein sehr frecher Junge” in German, and “Il n’est pas le messiah, il est un garçon très vilain” in French. Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, n’est pas?

  • Oh dear oh dear (again)

Don’t you just love the government? [sarcasm] They really do have it spot on with ID cards [/sarcasm].

How on earth anyone can take them seriously anymore I don’t know. I’m just hoping their reduced majority in parliament will make it much more difficult to push through ridiculous bills like the ID card scheme.

  • New Car!

Yay! I finally picked up the new car yesterday evening! It’s nice πŸ™‚

It’s so much better to drive in than my decrepit old Rover 216, it’s just generally a smoother drive. Took me a while to get used to the pedals, but I think I’m getting the hang of it.

As Quagmire from Family Guy might say, “Alllll-right”…
