  • I love… lamp

The weather has been horrible today – has hardly stopped raining! So it’s another indoor photo I’m afraid.

This photo is of a lamp we have in our living room which Phil’s parents gave us. It’s made out of stone and has an interesting pattern of holes around it. It’s a beautiful thing, and we enjoy having it on – particularly on these cold, dark winter’s evenings! (Ok, it’s not winter yet, but it feels a bit like it tonight…)

So there you have it. In other news, I think our boiler is going to be repaired next week, so hopefully we’ll have heating back by then! Yay!

  • Perfect Sky

Today we had just about the most perfect sky I think I’ve seen in recent weeks. Cloudless, beautiful shade of blue… so I wanted to get the sky in as many pictures as possible! I think this one came out surprisingly well.

Anyway, this weekend: what have we been up to? Well, not a huge amount – thankfully! It’s been a busy few weeks so it was really nice just to have a bit of time to kick back and relax. On Friday night we had 21 as per usual, then on Saturday we did a bit of shopping in the morning and generally didn’t do much most of the day. In the evening we went round to see Anne-Marie and Sarah and watched Merlin, then “Pillars of the Earth” (which was very good). It was also nice to see both of them again – because we’ve been so busy recently it’s been a few weeks since the last time!

On Sunday we went to church in the morning, and then came back for lunch – with our friend Laura! She was around this weekend and so stayed with us overnight last night. We had a great time catching up and watching various comedy programs. In the evening we went to Sunday@6, which seemed to go pretty well – quite a lot of people there, which was surprising given that it’s half term!

Anyway, that’s pretty much the summing up of our weekend. So there you have it!

  • Project 365: Intermission

Just a very quick post to say I don’t have time to upload any photos today but I have taken a few and will upload two tomorrow!

It’s been a nice relaxing weekend, but I shall also update about that tomorrow 😉

  • Day 60: Amplifier

I know I don’t usually put the number of days in the post title, but it’s a special one today! – 60 days. Yay! I’ve been doing this now for two months, just about. In five days time I will have less than 300 more photos to take! Time flies when you’re having fun 😉

I thought I’d try taking an indoor shot today – this is a photo of my guitar amplifier. It’s always interesting to get photos of things from different angles, not sure how well that one came out but still.

  • Wild Flowers

A quick post today in between getting back from work, having dinner and then going out to youth club! Today’s picture is of some wild flowers on the scrubland near where I work.

I also took one which had quite a forbidding sky, I think it might work well in black and white, but I don’t have time to edit it now so I’ll do that later! The clocks are due to go back a week on Sunday so I’m hoping that with that I will be able to take a few more night shots (I’ve been inspired by some of the pictures that Alex took in Colchester last week, plus it’s generally been something I’ve wanted to do for a while!)

  • More Flowers

I was quite pleased with the way today’s photo came out. Especially given that it was a bit windy!

Anyway, not really much to say about that one. Our house is beginning to look really good now that the hallway has almost finished being painted – perhaps I’ll upload a few photos of that when it’s done 😉 Anyway, that’s all from me for now.

  • It’s been a while

It’s been a while since I posted up a landscape style picture, so here you are! I think this is one of my favourites actually, I wasn’t sure about if it would work but it came out really well. Sometimes these kind of shots just work, I should try it more often.

Anyway, we’ll see how it goes. If I do end up with a new camera I’ll have to do more experimentation!

  • Reach for the Sky

Today’s photo is of a tree with the sky in the background – it was such a beautiful sky I couldn’t let the opportunity pass up! I don’t think it’s my best picture ever but I quite like it.

Anyway, I should mention that we’ve got Phil’s parents round helping us with some decorating this week (helping us as in, they’re doing it while we go to work. Don’t ask). I don’t know whether I’ll get a chance to upload a photo every day this week but I will be taking them!

  • Audley End Weekend

It’s possibly not a wise idea to be talking about this on my blog considering that it’s available to anyone to read, but I don’t think anyone from work reads this blog. If you’re my boss, please discontinue reading this now. Thanks 😉

Right, so, what did I get up to this weekend? Well, on Friday evening after work I headed straight down to St Mark’s College, Audley End. The Chelmsford Diocese were having an ordinands weekend for people who are considering ordination in the Church of England… which includes me. I don’t want to go into the whole background now of why I was at this weekend or what the purpose of it was, but suffice it to say it was an opportunity to meet some other people in my situation and get to know and experience some of the things we would be doing at the Bishop’s Advisory Panel (BAP).

Anyway, I managed to get lost on the way to Audley End! The road I was following (the A130 out of Chelmsford) somehow disappeared after a roundabout, so I was left a bit stumped. I picked the wrong road to follow and ended up in a place called Rayne! Anyway, after hooking up my mobile phone to GPS and Google Maps, it was able to navigate me all the way there without any problems. Yay for GPS! That was the first time I’d really had to use it and it seemed to work pretty well. I had a slightly different experience on the way back but we’ll get to that…

I won’t really go into details about what went on during the weekend but it involved a lot of services (morning prayer, night prayer, the Eucharist a couple of times), sessions on what was contained in a BAP, a group presentation, and some free time. Suffice it to say it was quite a full couple of days and I was glad when the time came to be leaving! – not because I hadn’t enjoyed myself but I was just really tired.

It was a really useful weekend though, and although I can’t really recommend it in a general sense (it’s only really going to be relevant to you if you’re considering training for ordination in the Chelmsford Diocese) – it was definitely worth going on!

Anyway, I mentioned the way back. I set up sat nav on my phone from the off on the way back, and it worked for a few minutes, but then after I got onto the B1054 (or something like that) – and it had said “stay on this road for 14 miles” – it lost the data connection. I have a feeling Vodafone might have been having problems in Essex because apparently someone else has been having issues with getting a 3G signal near Basildon today. But still, it’s annoying to have that kind of thing happen – if I was using a purpose-built GPS that kind of thing wouldn’t happen because all the map data is stored on the unit. You can buy sat nav software for Android which I would consider doing if I used it more often. Anyway, long story short, I got back home without problems, and my data connection seems to be working now (turning the phone off and on again seemed to help…).

Right, that’s pretty much it for now! The only other thing to mention is that today’s Project 365 image was taken at lunchtime today – someone had made a fire, and that’s a picture of the ashes. I think it turned out quite well, I like the colours! It’s a bit random to have a completely unrelated picture on my post about Audley End, but never mind…

  • Audley End Weekend

Well I’ve just come back from a weekend at Audley End! I will post up a bit more about that some other time. I just wanted to update with one of my project 365 photos! This is of Audley End house and gardens – we didn’t go in and have a look around but it looks beautiful from the outside. The weather was perfect too, a stunning autumnal day.

In a break from tradition I’m not going to display my two other project 365 photos here but you can find them on my photostream here (day 51) and here (day 53 – this morning).

I’m dog tired so that’s all from me for now!
