In general I think it came out pretty well although I do apologise for the dust… it’s surprisingly difficult to get off, despite several attempts!

I was contemplating just uploading my photo from yesterday again, but thought that gag might not go down too well!

  • Organised for once…

Well I’m being organised for once and writing this “the weekend” post shortly after the weekend has actually finished! I was going to go mad and do it last night but I was watching Top Gear and didn’t want to compose this post on my phone.

Aaanyway, this weekend we did the usual stuff – as in, 21 on Friday night, shopping on Saturday morning. We also had someone come round to look at fencing (not the thing with swords, our back fence is basically being held up by the shed and we need to have it replaced). In the afternoon we went out to watch “The King’s Speech”, which was a great film.

I said to Phil on our way out, it’s rare to see a film where they pitch everything just about perfectly. The story, the pace, the script, the acting, etc — it was all just… really nice. Tremendously enjoyable film and Phil and I both loved it. I’d recommend it to anyone to go and see, if you like a good story you will enjoy it. I think it is only improved by the fact that it is actually a true story! – I had no idea King George had speech problems (I’m not giving away anything by saying that…)

Anyway, after going to the cinema (and paying an exorbitant price for the tickets, which reminded me why we don’t go to the cinema that often), we came back home and had dinner and generally chilled out for the evening. (Speaking of films and things, I should mention we were so impressed by Speed Racer last week I have ordered the Blu-Ray. You can hardly go wrong for a tenner!)

On Sunday morning we went to church, and then were invited round to Chris and Ruth’s house for dinner. Chris and Eleanor were also there, we haven’t seen them since before their wedding last August, so it was really nice to catch up. Afterwards we went out again to Sunday@6, and then came back home and finished off the evening watching Top Gear.

I was using a lamp with this one and you can see the shadows on the white keys.

Again, I’m not sure how well this fulfills the criteria but I quite like how it came out 😉

Well, I think the telephone is an aspect of communication, so to speak! Think this shot turned out surprisingly well, and I think it works better in black and white.

  • Day 157: Red Berries Revisited

Daily Shoot theme today is simply red (should have done a photo on the theme of ‘If you don’t know me by now’ but still…)

Anyway, this is a cluster of lots of red berries. I tried to use a wider aperture so that the berries in the background are not quite so blurred out. Think it worked OK.

Plus, the daily shoot today was making a photo with a distinct curved line or surface. I think this is pretty curved!

Not sure if this is exactly what they had in mind but here’s my attempt anyway!

In order to make it a bit more interesting I made the background sepia.

  • Beer Festival

This weekend was the fourth annual Colchester CAMRA Winter Beer Festival. I’m sure it won’t be much of a surprise to learn that we were there on Saturday afternoon! We met up with Alex and Tom, and then Dan and Alison joined us a bit later on. It was a great afternoon, I think I really need something like that! Afterwards we headed down to the Ashiana for a curry, and then went to the Odd One Out for a bit before Phil and I headed for home. Great afternoon anyway, I’ve uploaded some photos to my Flickr photostream, and I’ve also uploaded them to Facebook.

On Sunday morning we went to church as per usual, and then in the afternoon Alex came round. We headed out to Sunday@6 with him, and then came back home and watched “Speed Racer”. This is a film by the Wachowski brothers, they made it after making “The Matrix”. It was a box office flop at the time, although I really don’t know why: I thought it was brilliant! Really good fun, entertaining, family film. And it looked fantastic in HD! After that we watched Top Gear and then headed to bed (Alex was staying over for the night as he had yesterday off work).

The past couple of weeks we’ve been watching a show called “Episodes” with Stephen Mangan, Tamsin Grieg and Matt LeBlanc. It’s a show about two British writers trying to get their sitcom made in America. It’s not laugh-out-loud kind of funny most of the time, but really worth watching – well written and, according to Steven Moffat, the scenes with the American TV executives aren’t even exaggerated. Anyway that’s on Monday nights on BBC2 (I think) – you might be able to catch it on the iPlayer if you’ve missed the first couple (it was the third one last night).
