  • Bit of an incident at work

    We had a bit of an incident at work today! One of our clients rang up asking if I knew anything about a bulletin board system that apparently we’d done for them. Now, we don’t do bulletin board systems. We’ve never written any at all… the reason they wanted to know was because someone had posted up a rather rude / abusive message there, and they wanted to be able to delete it. Oh dear.

    It transpired that someone who has now left our company installed the bulletin board on there when he did the installation of our product – leaving no documentation whatsoever about admin passwords etc. Oh dear. Needless to say, it was only after much to-ing and fro-ing that we managed to get it sorted out.

    Moral of the story? Never outsource things like that – losing control of a message board in your own company is not good…

  • The Weekend

    Well, the weekend seems such a long time ago! Let’s try and think back… on Friday evening, Philippa came round, and we went for a walk. Or something, I can’t remember. On Saturday, I didn’t do much… in the evening, we went for a BBQ by the lakes at the university with a couple of Philippa’s friends. It was really good actually! After the initial shower, it stayed dry which was good 🙂 And we had a great time.

    On Sunday I went to Fordham in the morning, which was really good. Andy Saville was preaching on Proverbs, bit of a coincidence because I’ve been reading through Proverbs recently!

    Afterwards, Philippa and I went to the Black Buoy for lunch – ’twas lovely! And afterwards went for a walk along the riverside, it was a beautiful day. And in the evening, Philippa and Luci came round and we had a pizza and watched “Monty Python’s Life of Brian”.

    Not much else to say without boring you to death, so I’ll leave it there…

  • Finally!

    Well, I’ve finally managed to get around to updating the DJ Info page on here… not that there’s much on there now really! It might be a good idea to get a dedicated site up to host mixes and things. Only thing is, bandwidth is expensive! When I get some money…

    Anyway, uh, not much else to say so, um, bye!

  • The Weekend

    I just thought I’d better make my customary ‘The Weekend’ post, seeing as if I didn’t some of you might be worried!

    I didn’t do very much at all, actually. On Sunday morning I went to Fordham, that was good! On Sunday afternoon Philippa got back from Austria, so she came round. In the evening we went to say “The Wedding Crashers” together. It was really funny, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are both good comedy actors!

    Anyway, not much else to say for the moment really. I did come across some good verses in Proverbs, though, which seemed quite appropriate for these troubled times! I’ll just finish with them.

    My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment,
           do not let them out of your sight;

        they will be life for you,
           an ornament to grace your neck.

        Then you will go on your way in safety,
           and your foot will not stumble;

        when you lie down, you will not be afraid;
           when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

        Have no fear of sudden disaster
           or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,

        for the LORD will be your confidence
           and will keep your foot from being snared.
    PROVERBS 3:21-26
  • Some good TV!

    There was some good TV on this evening! Firstly, I thought I’d check out “Extras”, a new comedy by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant (of “The Office” fame). One of the reasons I decided to watch it was because it had Ben Stiller in it! It was actually really good, I was very impressed. I’ll have to keep an eye on that one!

    The other thing that was on this evening that I liked followed it (after “The Catherine Tate” show, which I wasn’t that impressed with): “Absolute Power”, starring Stephen Fry and John Bird. I quite enjoyed it, had some good moments, and they seemed to be anti ID cards which is always a good thing in my book 😉

    Anyway, I’m off to bed now… good night!

  • More bombs on the tube…

    …but this time, apparently they’re only minor (only detonators involved, no actual explosive). It just makes me wonder, “What’s the point?!?!” What on earth are you trying to do? I mean, that’s barely even terrorism – it’s like performing a bank raid with a few cap guns or something. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad very few people were hurt (apparently), but – it just makes me wonder, who did this and what on earth were they trying to achieve?

    Ah well, I’m just glad it’s nothing like what happened a couple of weeks ago.

  • Hospital Radio Colchester

    Last night I guest presented on the late show with Simon. It reminded me of how much I enjoy doing radio work! It was great fun.

    Despite me getting 0/5 on the ‘Beat the intro’ game (I am rubbish at intros… particularly pop type stuff. Although I should have known the intro to that Abba song)…

    Anyway, must be off, more later (whenever ‘later’ is…)

  • The Weekend

    Ah, the customary ‘The Weekend’ post… so, what did I get up to this weekend? Let me try and remember… on Friday, I went to stay with my parents overnight. On Saturday I came back to Colchester in the afternoon, then in the evening I went round to Sarah and Jon’s (or at least, the place they are house-sitting) for a BBQ. It was a really enjoyable evening, nice to see them again as well as Simon, and meet a friend of theirs called Jason.

    Yesterday I went to Fordham in the morning – the first time I’ve been there in ages! But I did enjoy it, I think I might well start going there more often. In the afternoon I didn’t really do much, I watched a film called “I Spy” in the evening with Owen Wilson and Eddie Murphy. It wasn’t that great but it did have some good moments 🙂

    And that’s all… Philippa is in Austria for the week (if I was Matthew I’d make some cute remark about how I’m going to miss her so much and how she’s so wonderful, but as I’m not, I won’t 😉

  • Blogs suck.

    It’s official! – blogs suck. banish the word

    Actually, I think the guy has a point. I admit that I am a blogger, but I’m not pretentious about it… I don’t want people to read it because I think I have something valuable to contribute to the ‘net community. It’s just something for my friends to read if they want to keep up with what I’ve been up to, and it does make interesting reading for me after a while (seeing what I was up to this time last year, for example).

    Anyway, it’s not important, as very little of blogs are 😉

  • It’s too hot!

    It’s far too hot! I came into work this morning to hear the servers making a hell of a racket and displaying warning messages on the front panels… apparently, one of the air conditioning units failed and another one started blasting out hot air!

    Still, it seems to be cooler in there now. Anyway, what have I been up to this week? Not a whole lot really! On Tuesday I went round to the south courts to see Philippa in the evening. Yesterday I went round there for dinner, and we came back to mine for a while, listened to some new records that had arrived that day 🙂

    Um, and I think that’s about it… not a particularly exciting life I lead!
