  • “Hmmm, Upgrades…”

… as Neo says in “The Matrix Reloaded”. I’m afraid the upgrades I’m on about aren’t exactly up to the standard of the agents from The Matrix, but I think they’re pretty good nonetheless: I’ve brought this blog up to date with the latest version of X-Blog. It didn’t take ages, although there were a few little bugs that I had to work out! So now I’m running on the same version as the X-Blog website.

I haven’t come across any problems with it so far, so if you do come across any then do let me know! (Instead of e-mailing, you could leave a comment).

Anyway, I’d better get to bed, so that’s all for now.

  • Another four years of Labour

… well, I don’t really have much to say about that one! Other than, “not on my head be it.” At least they’ve got a smaller majority, which means hopefully they’ll be a bit more accountable! President Blair won’t be able to run off and have his own little war if the other parties don’t agree with it (um, or something like that).

    We shall see!

  • Election Day Today!

So, it’s election day today… time to come out of the woodwork and vote!

I have to say I don’t know who I will be voting for – I haven’t made my mind up yet! But it definitely won’t be labour. I’m actually erring towards the tories because I think they’re the strongest candidate to oust labour, but whatever – a hung parliament this time round would be a far better state of affairs than has been the last eight years.

I might vote for the Monster Raving Loony Party… they’re definitely very forward-thinking with their policies: they have a manifesto on there for the 2525 election! Having an election manifesto for 550 years’ time is pretty impressive – beat that all you main political parties…

    All for now 🙂

  • The news I was talking about

Yes, the news I was talking about. I have a flat! Woo-hoo! I put the admin fee down on it on Saturday, which means it’s off the market. It’s in Colchester, near the town centre. And if you want to come and visit me, please do! Drop me a line and I’ll tell you where it is 🙂 Hopefully moving in there in about a month. Just a matter of actually getting the deposit down etc…

I’ve also been working a bit more on X-Blog, I think I’m actually quite close to getting version 1.0 out.

Anyway, better make a quick “the weekend” type post! It was a long one this time, what with the bank holiday yesterday. Friday evening I’ve posted about (the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy). On Saturday, Philippa and I went into town in the afternoon to get the flat (as you know), and then in the evening we went round to Wivenhoe for a BBQ at Julian’s house. It was really enjoyable evening, I had a great time!

On Sunday we went to the chaplaincy service in the morning, did the radio show in the afternoon, and then in the evening went round to Wivenhoe for a drink at the Rose & Crown, and then back to Claremont Road to see Alex and his flatmates.

For the bank holiday itself, Philippa and I went for a long walk in the afternoon around “Hilly Fields” – a nature reserve really close to Colchester town centre. It was very nice! Beautiful day to go out walking.

Finally, an honorable mention must go to “Doctor Who” again – the Daleks are back! Oh, what fun…

  • Happy bank holiday!

I would just like to wish everyone a happy bank holiday. I hope that you all enjoy a day off (those of you who have days off, I hope that’s most of you reading this) and do something nice 🙂

I’ve got some news, but I’ll reserve that for later. All for now…

  • Hitchhiker’s Film

A group of about twelve of us went to see the new “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” film last night. A few of them brought towels… I didn’t. Anyway, the new film was really good! I think even if you don’t know the radio series / books, you should go and see it anyway. It’s really in the spirit of the original radio series I think, and very funny!

You know I have this rating system – when I’ll buy a film on DVD. Well, I’ll probably buy this film on DVD when it comes out 🙂

  • Hitchhiker’s on Friday!

I’m going to see the new “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” film on Friday! Yay! I’m really looking forward to it – I’m a huge fan of the original radio series and books, and I think this new one has done justice to the original from what I’ve heard 🙂

Also the new Star Wars film is coming out soon, the trailers for that look really good (having said that, the trailers for Episodes I and II looked pretty good as well. Nothing beats the original trilogy).

Last night I went over to Colchester. I had dinner with Philippa, and then we went onto campus for a walk and then met up with Alex and Ellie for a drink. Congrats to Alex for getting the new ChapAss position, by the way!

Also, I have some news re: cars – I’ve agreed to buy Paul’s car! He wanted to get rid of it because he didn’t really need it (he walks into town for work) so from roughly the beginning of June it will be mine. That’s very good news for me – I’m getting fed up of my old car!

Anyway, I think that’s about all for now. I might not post much until next week as it’s bank holiday weekend, and I’ll be spending most of the weekend in Colchester…

  • Witham is cursed!

Well, it seems that Witham railway station (on the line between Colchester and Chelmsford I think) is jinxed, or something. Last Friday, I left work a bit early to go down to London. The DJ Source forums (which I frequent) were having an event down there, so I went along with Philippa, Foz, and one of Foz’s friends. The plan was to meet up with Philippa in London a bit early, meet Foz at his place and go from there. We could have been at the Medicine Bar by 9:00 – and got free entry.

Unfortunately, that would have been far too easy.

When I got to Witham, the train stopped (it wasn’t supposed to stop at Witham). This was a bit strange, I thought… anyway, long story short, we were kept waiting for just under an hour and a half. No exaggerating. This not only inconvenienced me, it meant that Philippa was waiting for two hours at Liverpool St station! I thought I’d left plenty of time, but obviously not… I got to the Medicine Bar about 10:00, after stopping off for some food. Needless to say, I will be voicing my concern to One Railway about this!

Incidentally, the reason for me thinking Witham is cursed – I was on my way back to Ipswich today, and the train was late at Witham because of a failed earlier train! What is wrong with that station?! I’ve never had any problems there before!

Anyway. The weekend was good! The event itself was very enjoyable, good to meet a few people in person. On Saturday, Philippa and I went out for dinner as it was the birthday of a friend of hers. It was a really enjoyable meal, I’d recommend the place but I can’t actually remember what it’s called (it’s near London Bridge station).

Oh, and I just have to give an honorable mention to Doctor Who: because we were out last night, we recorded it and watched it this morning. I really liked the whole “45 seconds” thing – were they making a dig at anyone, I wonder? 😉

    All for now.

  • Don’t Panic!

I was reading an Article on The Register about the torino scale. This is basically a threat level scale for approaching asteroids / meteors / comets etc. They decided that the current wording could unnerve people a bit, so they decided to tone it down a bit…

This is the old maximum threat level description:

A collision capable of causing a global climatic catastrophe [which might] occur once per 100,000 years, or less often

And this is the new maximum threat level description:

A collision is certain, capable of causing global climatic catastrophe that may threaten the future of civilization as we know it, whether impacting land or ocean. Such events occur on average once per 100,000 years, or less often.

Don’t you just love scientists? Now we don’t just have a global climactic catastrophe, we also have to worry about the future of civilisation as we know it… that’s made me feel so much better!

I don’t think I’ll miss civilisation as we know it, to be honest 😉

  • The Weekend

And, once again, the customary “the weekend” post 🙂 It was a good one this week. On Friday I went back home after work to have dinner, and then headed off to Wivenhoe to meet people at The Station. I hadn’t been in there before, it was quite a small place but we had a good time. Quite a few people were there, including Alex, Ian, Phil P, Esther, Anne-Marie et al.

On Saturday morning I went into town to get my hair cut, and in the afternoon me, Paul and Philippa went to look for flats. There were a few possibilities; one which we liked the look of was a flat quite close to the town centre. It would be an ideal location for Paul, not so much for me because of the traffic but it might not be too bad.

On Saturday night we went to see ‘The Interpreter’. It’s a good film, I recommend it! It kept you guessing (or in my csae, just a bit confused) but it was well worth going to see 🙂

Anyway. On Sunday morning I went to Fordham. Mike was preaching on Isaiah, I really enjoyed it! And then after lunch I went back home. And I did a mix for an online DJ Competition in the evening. Fun fun fun!
