  • Monday’s Blog

Although this will say Tuesday (because I forgot to update until just after midnight), this is, in fact, Monday’s blog. Anyway. What did I get up to today?

This morning I went into town. “Monty Python’s Life of Brian” was released on DVD today so I bought that. Now I have all three Python films (Holy Grail, Meaning of Life as well) — there was a compilation of the Python films released today as well though which included “And Now for Something Completely Different”. If that ever gets released separately I may well buy it (although I think Joe has a copy of it on video).

This afternoon, I went with my parents to “Newbourne Springs”. It’s a lovely little lake in the middle of the countryside (a little village / hamlet called “Newbourne”, surprisingly enough). There’s a walk round it which is really nice on a day like it has been today (sunny, although not too warm and not too cold).

Um, and I watched (obviously) the Life of Brian, some of Jay & Silent Bob Strike back… some random film in the evening… all good fun!

And I’ll leave it there. Yes. I will do that. Absolutely. I’ll stop prevaricating and

  • Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

I wrote out a nice long (well, two paragraph) blog saying what I’d done today, but unfortunately due to problems with my connection I lost all of it. ALL OF IT!!! Grrrr. Oh well. I’ll just write what I wrote in brief, because I really can’t be bothered to type it all out again… went to Church this morning. Twas good. Had dinner, did some mixing, read, had tea, watched TV, read, played around on computer.

And these are the fruits of the playing around on the computer:

(apologies if these give you nightmares, but don’t say I didn’t warn you)

    Ready? Here we go then…

Mount Philmore, that well-known landmark in America

This is the poster for the Matrix II. Well, if it was Phil-style it would be...

Thankyou ladies and gentlemen, and goodnight…

  • As the Saturday closes…

… so into the last week of the holidays! Having said that, the holidays will be slightly longer for me this year, as Easter is so late term starts on the following Tuesday (we get an extra day off, wow! — but that does mean I will be going back home Easter Monday as opposed to before the weekend, which I guess will make the holiday seem a bit longer).

Anyway! Today I went into town. I bought “So I Married an Axe Murderer” on DVD — this little piece of Mike Myers comedy has reached almost cult status amongst me and some of my friends (Hello Joe!).

Also I spent some time working in FruityLoops on a Happy Hardcore version of “Take On Me” by Ah-Ha.Oh yes, it may be 180BPM but it’s full-on cheese 🙂

Um, and as usual not much else to say. Except that if I’m going to be getting up for Church tomorrow morning I suppose I’d better get to bed before 2:00AM…

    Later folks!

  • The Holidays are going by too quickly…

I’ve just realised something… this has just been the third week of the holidays — and it’s gone by very quickly! It must be doing absolutely nothing. When you’re not doing anything at all, or very little, time tends to go very quickly. It seems strange — normally, time goes by very slowly (for example) in a boring lecture when you’re not doing anything and look at the clock every 30 seconds. However, in the holidays the opposite seems to be true. Time is just weird! I demand a refund!!!

Anyway, back to the plot. What did I do today? Not much really. Read some more of “Out of the saltshaker…”. It’s a very good book actually, I suspect most of the books that I’ve got on evangelism will overlap quite a bit but I’m quite fired up for it at the moment! I’m looking forward to getting back to uni and CU Committee where we can talk about ideas and things. I’m sure I’ve said this before, but I think it’s going to be a good year 🙂

And not much else really that’s worth mentioning here. Just the usual. My Warcraft III map is coming along quite well. Not the one I mentioned the other day, another one that I started afresh… still nowhere near as good as the pros make, but nevertheless I think it’s the best thing I’ve come up with so far!

I might take a wander into town tomorrow, for the sake of not doing nothing at all. I want to see “Johnny English” at some point soon (Rowan Atkinson is a genius), but I don’t know who I’m going to go with. Last summer I went to see “Goldmember” on my own, but I don’t really want to have to repeat that…

Well, there you go. That’s all for now folks!

  • One of these days…

One of these days I’m actually going to post up here that I did something exciting. Then you’ll regret it! MWahahahaha!!! And I’d do it again, I tell you!!! I’D DO IT ALL AGAIN!!! MUR HA HA HAAAAAA!!!! Excuse me, got a bit carried away there. Must have tapped in to some primeval well of the human psyche…

Anyway. As you may have gathered already, today I did nothing exciting. Did some revision (boring!) read “Out of the Saltshaker and Into The World (Evangelism as a Way of Life)” for a while (good stuff), watched “Mallrats” and “Chasing Amy” (on DVD, they both arrived in the mail this morning) and part of “Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi”. However, the highlight of the day would have to be chatting to Naomi on the phone for about half an hour this evening. Although, of course, chatting to her is always a highlight 🙂*

Oh, I might as well do a quick film review: “Mallrats” is good if you like the Jay and Silent Bob type humour (similar kind of stuff to “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”). “Chasing Amy” — I really didn’t like it. Ah well, I’ll see if I can sell it on to some clueless person… I still think “Dogma” is the best out of the Jay & Silent Bob films, although I haven’t seen “Clerks” yet.

And that’s a wrap for today! Oh, one thing to mention: Monty Python’s Life of Brian is being released on DVD next week! Yay! I reckon I’ll be buying it 😉

    All for now, y’all…

    * But I have to say that in case she ever reads this…

  • Hey, guess what? It’s WEDNESDAY!!!

Ok, I’m just going through the whole “mention the day in the title” phase. It’ll soon wear off. Perhaps onto the even more fascinating “mention the month in the title” phase.

Anyway. I haven’t really done much today, which I’ve been saying every day for the past couple of weeks, so I guess it’s not really a surprise 😉

Did a bit of revision and stuff. Spent some time editing a map or two for Warcraft III… it’s quite addictive, actually! Well for some people it is…

Now I might read some more (perhaps to the end) of “Sowing reaping keeping”, woo-hoo!!!

  • Part Two of the Epic Instalment of, uh, something: Tuesday

Yep. Well, didn’t do much today. Did an hour or so of Computer Graphics revision, now I’ve gone through all my Graphics notes! Time to start again at the beginning going through in greater detail…

After reading “The Cross of Christ”, I decided to start something a bit more lightweight, so I’m reading “Sowing, Reaping, Keeping” by Laurence Singlehurst. I’m already half way through it! It’s actually a very good book, I’m currently thinking about some practical changes that we can make in the CU to reflect what I’m reading. Lots of ideas to bring to the CU committee anyway, and I’m sure everyone else will be thinking along similar lines (they bought similar books while we were at the UCCF conference 🙂

Um, and yeah. Didn’t do much else. Oh, and this is just for Simon: I spoke to Philippa (amongst others) on the Phil Phorums.

Excellent! All for now, me ‘ol chums…

  • And, onto Monday

Half way through the holidays already! But that’s almost unfeasible! Oh well. So, what did I get up to today then? Hmmm? Come on, all you psychics out there! No? Oh well.

Anyway, I went into town this morning. ’twas brillig, and the slithy tothe did … Oh wait. I meant to say, “was good.” Yes. Oh yes. I did. Indeed. Rather. Quite. Absolutely. Frubjous day, calloo callay, he chortled in his joy. So, what did I do in town, my young apprentice? I bought a record (Sasha – Artificial Heart). I’m actually rather disappointed with the amount of stuff out this week… there isn’t really anything of note. Anyway, I also bought the second series of “Spaced”. It’s an excellent comedy sitcom. Me and Phil, before last year’s Soul Survivor, pulled an all-nighter watching all of the episodes… think I enjoyed them a bit more watching them while I wasn’t tired though! Speaking of Soul Survivor, I’d like to go again this year, if someone can get on with it and actually do something about it! Oh wait, none of the ones who organise it read this blog. Oh well.

Um, anyway. Then I went into Woodbridge. Caught up with a few people; some I meant to, some I didn’t. Woodbridge is the kind of small town where you just bump into people that you know — it’s what I like about Essex University as well. You can’t go through campus without meeting someone that you know (if you count the chaplaincy as well, then it’s virtually impossible…)

And speaking of Essex Uni, I’m looking forward to going back. It’s good to have a break, but I want (a) that cable connection back, (b) to be with all my uni friends again (not necessarily in that order, as Ernie Wise might have said).

Well, to quote Loony Tunes, or whoever the heck it was, That’s all folks!

Peace out. Innit. Aiiiiiiii. Respect. Westside. And, uh, yeah.

  • Today

Just a quick update to let you know what I got up to today, oh the fun! 🙂

This morning I went to Church. This afternoon I did some reading, went to watch some football on the ol’ Rec, did some mixing, played some Warcraft III, and generally lazed around.

    Aren’t holidays great?

  • Finished it!

Yep, I’ve finished “The Cross of Christ” (virtually — got about four more pages to read after I’ve written this.) I have to say, it’s probably one of the best defining books of the Christian faith I’ve ever read (not that I’ve read many…) The CU committee at the moment are on a bit of an evangelism drive, after the UCCF training weekend. However, I’m not entirely sure that the right way to go about tackling the problem of doing more evangelism on campus is just to tell people that we need to evangelise or even just running more events. No, I think the way of tackling it is getting people to do things like read a book like “The Cross of Christ”, get themselves sorted out, and find out what we need to be doing personally and not just in groups. Then we can move forward as a group and really begin to serve people. I was a bit worried that we were just going to start doing something like Tower Evangelism a bit more often and dealing with it like that instead of going to the roots. Still, I’m pretty confident that that’s not going to happen and things will begin to move forward properly 🙂

Anyway. What did I do today? Well, I’ll give you half a guess (three is just overkill). Not much, I hear you half-say? That’s right. I really didn’t do all that much today. I did, however, finish off that mix I’ve been talking about for the past couple of days. I’ve now got it saved on my computer, and have been trying to upload it for the past two hours (hence why this blog update is so late / early) without success. I don’t know why, but it seems to get half-way through and then crash. or at least, my connection seems to freeze after about 25 minutes. I blame Freeserve, personally. If anyone is considering using them as your ISP – DON’T! They suck. I don’t change though because of the effort that would involve (and plus I’m on a cable connection at uni).

Um, and yeah. Not really anything else of note to report, so I’ll just let it go and get back to read the last couple of pages and then back to bed!
