More detailed “I’m Alive”…

Ok. Friday and Saturday were pretty similar. On Friday, I got to the bus stop just before 12:30… there were about 16 Blue Arrow people, but we also picked up some people from Bury (half-way there). The journey took about an hour and twenty minutes. When I got there, I signed in and was given a ‘uniform’ (just a tie and an apron) and told to go to the Moorstyle Marquee. That was where I was to be working for the whole day. at Newmarket, they have Marquees which are divided up into ‘Chalets’. These can be hired out to companies who want to go out for a day’s racing. The particular chalet I was working in had a local company in. They had a champagne reception, a meal (don’t know how many courses, depends if you include coffee and cheese & biscuits as a course…), followed by the racing and the band. My job was to look after the bar throughout the evening — which I hadn’t done before. Long story short, I learnt how to make a gin and tonic, mix a Pimms, open a bottle of Champagne, and in general work a bar to an extent. There wasn’t any draught beer there though, so I wouldn’t like to work in a pub just yet 😉 The coach arrived back in Ipswich at about 1:15 AM Saturday morning – and I had to walk back home – so I had about four and a half hours sleep. You understand why I was rather tired! I did get to see Status Quo though, while they were playing almost everybody was outside watching them so I was able to dance away inside. I think I entertained a few people that way 😉

Yesterday was more of the same kind of thing, just in a different place. Working a bar, but I had to help out with waiting as well. It was a smaller group of people (about 16 as opposed to 40), so it was much quieter. Apart from a small hiccup (the clients wanted a full bar instead of just wine / water / orange juice…) it went OK. I don’t know why managers are so uptight… becoming a manager seems to mean that you automatically become a bit harsh as well. Especially when they’re stressed, although I guess everybody does have a tendency to get short when they’re stressed. Not physically…

Anyway. I’m sure you didn’t really want to read all of that, but I thought I’d tell you anyway! It was worth it, the money’s good and I’ve got a few tips 🙂

In other news… Simon asked me a few days ago if I wanted to go and see the Reduced Shakespeare Company in Colchester. I said yes, so I’m going to see them in November (the 14th, I think). Looking forward to it, they’re meant to be really funny! And… not much more to say. Church today was good. My parents are on holiday for a couple of weeks, so I’ve got the house to myself for this week, and then I’m off to Soul Survivor next week! I tried to ask PhilB when he was going back to Norwich (I could go back with him; to get from Colchester to Norwich you pass through Ipswich) but with his usual response times he didn’t get around to replying while I was still online. I’ll ask him again this week…

That’s all for now folks! Laterz…
