  • Hmmm

I forgot to mention, the other night I read through “A Grief Observed” by CS Lewis. At least, I think I forgot to mention it. I might not have… anyway, I’ll say it again. It was pretty good actually! Although it was about a bad experience (losing his wife), it does actually end on a relatively positive note. And I like any book that gets me to think about a different aspect of God!

Anyway. What have I been up to today? Went into town to watch “Return of the King”. It was really good, apart from being in the cinema from 2:00 until about 5:30 (three and a half hours worth of film, more or less). We went in a group, with me, Alex, Chris T, Ash and Ian and Philippa. Afterwards me, Phil, Alex and Ash went back to Ian’s place and got a pizza. Then me, Ash and Alex came home and watched a few episodes of Futurama.

Overall, a very enjoyable day! I don’t feel in the mood for bed just yet, so I think I’ll watch a random film or something before going. Yay for the greasy chipmunk…

  • Nothing much to say

Just a quick update… I haven’t done much the past couple of days. Yesterday I went into town to pick up my photos, so hopefully they’ll be available online sometime soon. We had a wine-tasting type evening as well. Me, Ian, Jon B, Kev B, Alex and Phil P were there. It was good fun… we managed to polish off about six bottles of wine over the course of the evening!

Anyway. Then today, I got up… had lunch… and just watched Fellowship of the Ring. In a few minutes we’re going to start the Two Towers. A mammoth Lord of the Rings session in preparation for Return of the King tomorrow! It’s good fun 🙂

  • The Weekend

As I said in my last post, I went round to Philippa’s place last night and spent most of the evening there. We watched Baz Luhrman’s version of “Romeo and Juliet”. I have never been a big fan of Shakespeare, but Phil said that I ought to watch R+J before I made a judgement. Or something. Anyway, it was certainly better than I expected… but I still don’t really like Shakespeare! I don’t know why, all his stuff just seems to be too way out and not really connected with the real world. I know that he does make ‘real world’ style points, but it just doesn’t connect with me I’m afraid. Still, that’s just the way the cookie crumbles!

Anyway. Then I went home, went to bed… got up today, haven’t really done a lot. Done some work on Crossring. Nothing exciting! At least I don’t have to be up tomorrow, although I will hopefully get some work done on my project and go into town to pick up some photos.

  • The Last Day of Term

Shocking! The last day of term has been and gone! So what did I get up to on this monumentous occasion? Well, I went onto campus for my Computer Vision class at 12:00. That was actually rather useful, I was worried that there wouldn’t be much of one but the stuff we did was all good 🙂 Then I decided to go to the campus shop and on the way bumped into Andy C chatting with Pete and Suzi. I stopped to say hello to them, and then Rich came along. I chatted to him for a bit, and he said that he was going to meet Philippa for lunch. So, I went round to Phil’s place with her and Richard, and we had some pasta for lunch. The plan was for me to go back onto campus and do some work, but … that sort of didn’t really happen. So I ended up staying round at Phil’s all afternoon (we watched some Morecambe and Wise — fantastic!) and then went to Tesco, then back to Wiv. We had dinner, and then went back onto campus for the last Cheesy Tunes of term!

It was actually pretty good last night. There was a bit in the middle where they were just playing a bunch of stuff that I didn’t really know, but they did play some good music and much fun was had by all. There are some pictures of it (plus many other events) on Andy C’s Website. There are also some photos up on the Campus Crew MSN group, but I think only members are allowed to look at those (so yah-boo…)

Anyway. After Cheesy, we went to Minging for a hot chocolate as per usual, and then back home, then to bed. I got up this morning, and didn’t really do much. I’ve been trying to do some work all day — even to the extent of coming onto campus to the computer lab! But I really don’t feel in a work kind of mood. I’m just sitting here looking at the XSLT (Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations) specifications on the World Wide Web Consortium’s Website, and just cannot make head nor tail of it. I think the best thing is just to give up for today and come back to it on Monday.

I’m going to meet up with Philippa in about half an hour, then just spend the evening with her. Well, some of the evening at least. Then go back home. I haven’t got a lift to Church tomorrow, I’m not actually sure whether I’ll be going. It’s been a rather hectic few weeks, I think I could use some time off! I will spend some time tomorrow working on Crossring. I’m doing a new design (or rather, have done) — I just have to finish it off and get some templates together. All things being well, it shouldn’t take too long to do!

Right then. That’s just about it for now. Over and out for now…

  • Couple of days

Um, yeah. Right then. Wednesday… I didn’t really do much. Then went into town for our Fusion social, we went to Pizza Hut and then the cinema to watch “Elf”. It was a very good film actually! I’d recommend anyone to go and see it — very funny. Will Ferrell is perfect for the role, I wasn’t that impressed with him in Zoolander and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back but that was good 🙂

After that, I went onto campus with Philippa. The plan was to go to the Burma Campaign type thing night in Mondo, but we ended up not going because by the time we got down there, they weren’t letting anyone in. Ah well. We spent some time chatting, then went home.

Today, I went onto campus for 2:00, did some work for an hour, then met up with Philippa for a hot chocolate in Mondo. Paul came down as well. Then, it was back up for committee until theology seminar at six (rebranded ‘pizza seminar’, as it was more of a social). Then, I went to the bar for an hour with Philippa and her friend Nic. Then I went home, and played some Warcraft III with Ash… it was good fun! And then watched some Christmassy type fim which had Rowan Atkinson, Alan Cumming and Lenny Henry in it. I can’t remember what it was called but it was good!

Right, time time to go to bed now I think. G’night!

  • Quick update

Just a quick update to say, I spent most of today working on my final year project. Met up with Alex and Philippa for a bar breakfast this morning, met up with Philippa for half an hour this afternoon, then went back, changed for the CU meal and went out. It was good fun! A very good evening. The food was good, the company was good. I think everyone enjoyed it 🙂

And that’s about all I have the energy for, I’m off to bed. Goodnight all!

  • Beginning of the new week

Well, technically Sunday’s the beginning of the new week. But this is the beginning of the new academic week, so to speak. Not that I did much to speak of, anyway. Speaking of which…

I went onto campus for 1:00 today, chaplaincy lunch. Then I went to my Computer Vision lecture. Then I went to the computer lab and spent a couple of hours doing some research for my project. Then, I went to Tesco with Alex. I came back, and haven’t really been doing all that much, unsurprisingly. Bought a new tie for tomorrow (the CU Christmas meal). I’m rather looking forward to it, should be a good evening!

    Anyway, all for now. Later…

  • Sunday

Hmmm, well I tried to update this earlier but there was some kind of server trouble so I couldn’t. Just in case you were wondering (which I very much doubt).

So. Today: went to Church as per usual at Fordham. It was a family service this morning. I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as I usually do, mainly because of (a) lack of sleep, and (b) they sang mainly old hymns which I didn’t know very well! Still, that’s the way it goes sometimes.

Then, this afternoon I did a bit of a mix, recorded it onto my computer, so I shall upload that sometime later. Then, it was Dunamis this evening! I have to say, I think it was a great success. Everybody seemed to enjoy it. My part went well! Congrats to Phil P, who organised most of it.

Unfortunately Philippa couldn’t be there as she’s down in London! So I won’t see her until Tuesday. It’s a tragedy, I tell you…

*ahem* Yesterday night was pretty good. I went round to Andy C, Sheri and Richard’s place as it’s Richard’s birthday tomorrow, so they had a bonfire in their place. It was a good evening! Anyway, I’m gonna stop there… night y’all!

  • Continuining in the vein of exciting titles

Actually, that was probably the most exciting ‘title’ I’ve had all week. Anyway. Yesterday, after doing my assignment I went to my lab (which wasn’t particularly exciting) and then went home. Alex made us a chicken Korma (which was very nice, actually) and we hired a couple of videos from the store: Bulletproof Monk, and 2 Fast 2 Furious. Both of them were pretty good; I’ve seen 2F2F before but Bulletproof Monk was alright too. Not the strongest storyline I’ve ever seen, but as with most of these movies the storylines tend to be just devices to show off fancy kung-fu moves. Or something.

Anyway. Then, this morning I got up, uh… didn’t do much… came in for my radio show at 2:00, then down here to a computer lab to finish off my Computer Vision assignment. I’ve just printed it out… 25 pages worth! That’s a lot. About 5,500 words in total (half of those pages were computer code, and the rest contained a few diagrams and screenshots here and there). I don’t think I’m going to get very high marks for it, but hey… at least it’s done now, and I can focus on my final year project for the last week of term. Finishing assignments is a very good feeling!

After this, I’m going to meet Philippa, then have dinner, then go round to Andy C, Richard and Sheri’s place for a bonfire apparently. It’s Richard’s birthday on Monday, so they’re having a kind of party this evening. It should be good fun, although I don’t think I’m going to stay for a particularly long time — I’ve got to be up for Church tomorrow!

Right. Time for the off. See you later, my friends. Or enemies. Why enemies of mine would want to read my blog I don’t know. Why friends would want to read it I also don’t know, unless of course they want to know what I really think about you (I hate you all, by the way). In fact, why anyone should want to read this is a total mystery, given that it’s incredibly boring and full of random paragraphs like this where I just go off on one about something. Still, at least it keeps me happy. Reading through the archives is always quite interesting…

  • Thursday and Friday

Wow, I’ve been imaginative with titles this week. Could just be because I haven’t been in a particularly imaginative mood — I’ve been working… anyway. Yesterday, I went onto campus for 11:00 to meet up with Philippa in Mondo. Alex was meant to be there was well, but unfortunately he was ill with a cold. Thursdays is apparently Phil and Alex’s theological discussion time, so me and Phil did have a small theological discussion about what was said at Fusion 🙂

After that, I went to a computer lab to do some work… then met Paul at 1:30 in Mondo, then went to my prayer triplet at 2:30, then went to a computer lab to do some more work, then went to the committee meeting at 4:00, then went to theology seminar at 6:00, after that headed to Joe’s for a little while, then went back home and managed to get a lift with Paul. All in all, not a bad day! After I got back home I spent two or three hours working on my Computer Vision assignment. I think it was about that amount of time… I received “Classical Chillout Gold” in the post (5 CDs for 12.99 from play.com — not bad!) and I listened to two and a bit CDs of that while I was working.

This morning, I came onto campus for my 12:00 class, and then went to a computer lab to do some work. Anyway, this brings me to where I am now, which is sitting in a computer lab not wanting to do any work. I’ve done most of my Computer Vision assignment… the tricky part is just bringnig myself to do the last part. I’m nearly there, but I need to finish it off! It’s almost always the finishing off that I find hardest, the last push before the end. Ah well, I will get that done at some point soon, hand it in next Monday and then I’ll get to spend most of next week working on my project (oh, I can’t wait…)

Anyway – that’s what’s been happening with me. Now I’m signing off, do a little bit more of my assignment…
