  • New photos!

Quick update… just to say that I’ve added some photos to the photo section of this website (click the link on the left, I can’t be bothered to do a direct one from here).

They’re just a random collection of photos I took between Summer and Winter last year, quite a large time period! Just shows you how often I use my camera…

  • Back in Colchester!

I’m now back in Colchester! Or Wivenhoe, to be precise. I got back at around 4:30 this afternoon (well, yesterday afternoon to be technical). Anyway. Welsh Phil got back a little bit after I did, which is good! There are two of us in the house now.

This afternoon we went to the Co-Op, then had dinner, then went to the Rose and Crown for a couple of hours with Kev B and Jon. Then we came back home and browsed some cheap DVDs and stuff, and I’m now about to go to bed. It’s all good!…

  • The Weekend

Uh, not much to say again. Tomorrow I’m going back to Colchester, though, so things may possibly start to pick up a little bit then! Right…

This is really just so that I remember it (or at least, know that I have it noted down somewhere even if I’ll never be able to find it again apart from complete accident), but I watched a film last night called “Cloak and Dagger” with Cary Grant. Seen it before, years ago… and old black and white war movie. Anyway, it was fairly obvious that “Top Secret”, a spoof spy type film, was based on parts of that old film. Uh. yeah.

This morning, I went to Church. Came back home, had lunch… I had a rather productive afternoon, working writing a little bit of music. Nothing fantastically exciting though. Worked on another piano type piece; it’s rather scary — a week ago I probably wouldn’t have seen myself writing this kind of music! Not that it’s any good, of course, but even so…

Anyway. Then this evening I decided to randomly watch a couple of episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation that I have on video. I don’t really know why, other than I got rather bored and didn’t have anything else particularly exciting. So there you go! Anyway. I said at the beginning of this post that I was going back to Colchester tomorrow. This is possibly true. I might be going back on Tuesday. The reason is, the car is going in for the MOT tomorrow morning, and it may or may not be done by the afternoon. If it’s done by the afternoon I’ll go back to Colchester tomorrow, otherwise it’s back on Tuesday. Not that it makes a whole lot of difference. Welsh Phil is going back to tomorrow.

Oh, and in a week’s time I’ll be able to see Philippa again! Yay! 🙂

  • The past couple of days

I really don’t have much to say here. I haven’t done all that much… Yesterday, I went into town to meet up with Tom and a couple of other people. We went to the Cricketers to have lunch. It’s a Wetherspoon’s pub (like the Playhouse in Colchester). I quite liked it – nice and cheap and the food wasn’t too bad! That was a good time, spending a couple of hours chatting and stuff. Then I went back home. Graham Spiers had come round for the afternoon, so spent some time chatting with him and my parents. Then… well, I didn’t really do much else.

I did read through those notes on musical theory and I think I’m beginning to understand it. So much so that (shock! horror!) – I actually wrote a small tune! It’s only eight bars long, and I don’t think it’s particularly good, but it’s a start.

Not much else to say now, so I’ll stop …

  • Happy New Year!

Happy new year everybody! I hope that you had a good one. Mine wasn’t too bad. I spent the evening at home! Anyway. What have I been doing, I hear you say? (You must be speaking very loudly, unless you’re relatively close to me…) *ahem*. Anyway. Yesterday, I did pretty much the same that I did on Monday. Today was almost the same, except that I went into town this morning. Bought a couple of bits in the sales – “Johnny English” on DVD and “Fight Club” on VHS. I watched Johnny English this afternoon; it’s actually pretty good! Definitely worth watching. I saw it at the cinema when it came out, but good to now own it on DVD 🙂

I chatted to Philippa for about half an hour on the phone. Then we had dinner… then I tried composing some music (disastrous!) so I have resolved to learn some music theory and actually do it properly. Anyway. Then I watched a film with my parents (a Perry Mason film), chatted to them for a bit, then came up here to … I dunno. Send an email or two, write this!

Might even *gulp* read through some notes on music theory before I go to bed! Scary or what?…

Happy new year everybody! May it bring you prosperity and happiness. And if not that, at least a banana or something. Or possibly a small monkfish. Named Bob. You can never have too many of them…

  • What’s up, my brother?

Hmmm. Anyway, yes. Yesterday, I went to church in the morning. I came home, and had lunch. Then I … uh… did something. Prepared the Fusion program for next term for our group. Went out again to church. Came back home. Had tea. Did something. Went to bed.

Today… I woke up, had breakfast. (I’m really scraping the barrel now, as you may have noticed…) Had lunch. Worked on my final year project. Did a bit of reading. Worked on my project again. Had dinner. Went for a walk. Watched “The Blues Brothers”. So, as you can see, not much! I have been up to slightly more but it’s so incredibly boring that I’d probably bore even myself if I wrote it up. That’s gotta be bad.

Still. Only a week left until I’m back in Colchester! This holiday has gone past ridiculously quickly. Probably because I stayed round for a week in Colchester, then spent a few days with Phil, then it was Christmas, and now it’s only two weeks until the start of next term. It does feel like quite a bit has happened since the end of last term though! Right.

I’m not going to be doing anything exciting this week, so I may not post up very often. Just the usual stuff, and doing my project work. Oh, it’s so fun… yeah right. Still, I just have to look forward to see my going up at my graduation (hopefully). That’s what I’m doing this for! See yous guys laters…

  • Today

Didn’t do loads… Vivienne and the children came round. They were … well, better than they had been, but still not exactly perfect. Still, I went out for the afternoon into town! I bought some new clothes – a new suit (cost me about £70; it was apparently worth well over £150…), new jumper and trousers, and a couple of DVDs (“The Blues Brothers” and “The Parole Officer”). Then I came home…

Chatted to Philippa on the phone briefly. Was nice to hear her voice, I’m missing her a lot! Then we had tea… I watched “The Parole Officer”… then had a coffee, and wrote this. Ok, so there were one or two other bits in there, but those are the salient ones!

That’s about it from me today. Good night!

  • Christmas!

Just a quick update tonight, I think. Right. Yesterday. Church in the morning. Julie and Mark and the children came up for lunch, and stayed the night. We played some games, unwrapped presents, watched “Only Fools and Horses” Christmas Special… nothing to speak of really!

Today Julie, Mark and the kids went home, Maureen’s going home tomorrow… we went out for a walk… had lunch… I finished off “The Problem of Pain” (a very good book, excellent, although a little heavy-going in places)… we had dinner… I went for a walk on my own… we watched some TV… not a very exciting day!

I’m going to go into town tomorrow and acquire for myself some Precious Things. i.e., have a look round at all the bargain DVDs and see if I can pick any good ones up! Possibly some new trousers as well, in the sales. I’m in a bit of a random mood, so I’m going to watch an Episode of Spaced, to keep up the university tradition. See you later!

  • Christmas Eve

I really can’t believe it’s Christmas eve. It really doesn’t feel all that festive. Could be because of the busyness of the past few days! And, of course, it’s been a while since I’ve got particularly excited about Christmas. Plus the frenzied consumerism really puts me off.

Anyway. I haven’t been up to much today… Phil gave me a piece of music that she wrote a while ago, and I’ve spent a while just arranging that a bit, messing around a little bit. Played a game with my parents and Maureen (long-standing family friend. Very long standing, in fact — since my Mum was small…)

Um, went for a bit of a walk… pretty pathetic really! Oh well. I probably won’t post anything up tomorrow, so this is me signing off for the time being. Only one thing left to say:

    Happy Christmas Everybody!

Hope you all have great Christmasses! And remember — it’s cheesy, but — Jesus is the real reason for the season 🙂

  • It’s been a busy few days!

Sorry I haven’t updated at all over the past few days. I’ve been rather busy, as I’m sure you will appreciate! I did try and update once over the weekend but unfortunately Blogger was down at the time. Nevermind.

Right, what have I been up to since I last posted, almost a week ago? Right. Thursday: fairly quiet kind of day. Philippa came round in the evening, a few of us went to the Wivenhoe Fish and Chip shop to get dinner, and then we watched “Bernard and the Genie” again, followed by a couple of episodes of “Spaced.” Then went to bed.

Friday morning, I packed. Phil went onto campus because she had to print out and hand in an essay. My Dad came and picked us up early afternoon, and then we went back to Ipswich. Friday evening we watched “Top Secret”, then went to bed.

Saturday we spent in Woodbridge. It was a really good day, I took Phil around all the places where I grew up… she seemed to be quite interested, so I just rambled on… It is a lovely place though! Would have been better had it not been for the wind and the rain, but hey — that’s winter in England for you. In the evening, we went to the pub with Tom and then headed back to his place for a while, then caught the bus home.

Sunday, we went to Church in the morning. It was a production of “The Grumpy Shepherd”, I really enjoyed it. Christmas is a little ‘cheesy’ in places, but I think that’s one of the reasons why people love it so! After lunch, me and Phil caught the train back to Colchester (back to her place), and then her parents picked me and her up and took us back to Pett’s Wood, down in Orpington, London. Her parents are very very nice people!

That evening we just watched a film, “This is Spinal Tap.” Then we had a random chat until the small hours of the morning (well it wasn’t that late really, but when you’re not at uni everything feels a bit later). The next day we went into Central London. It was good fun, we had a good wander round. I actually found a place that I hadn’t been to since I was in year 12… we went to see a play (Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House”) for my English Literature course. Anyway, we went for a bit of wander than and went to a pub… me and Phil found the same pub that we’d been to about four years ago. It was a bit strange going back! Also, we met up for a coffee with Rich, from the DJ Workshops ast year. He’s working in London at the moment, it was nice to see him again! And in the evening, we went to the pub with a few of Phil’s friends. That was a good evening!

Anyway. This morning, we went into Bromley. Did a bit of Christmas shopping and stuff. Then came back home, had lunch, watched Monty Python’s “And Now for Something Completely Different”. Then Phil played me some of the stuff that she’d composed around GCSE and A-Level. It was really very good! Well, I thought so at least. I might do a remix of one of the tracks, or at least play around with it a bit on FL Studio.

Then I came home. Phil came with me to Liverpool Street Station. The journey back was good, took about ten minutes longer than they said but cool. Overall, a very good few days! London is a nice place — I’m not sure that I’d like to live there though. I guess it’s just that you always have a special place in your heart for where home is… I’m glad that I’m back in Ipswich! London is absolutely huge, whilst I’d love to explore a bit more I much prefer small towns such as Woodbridge.

Anyway. Sorry this has been a bit of an epic. Just one more thing to update you on. I’ve got my mark back for CC361 Computer Vision. I got 90%!!! Yay!!! I’m so happy — I thought I’d have trouble scraping a 2:1 with that one. Anyway, I’d better end this now. See you later!

Phill, the man with the plan and the white van about the scan of the jam. Or something…
