  • Very Strange

I just glanced at my blog from the university computers… apparently, the last post I made was last Sunday. However, I’ve just checked Blogger and I’ve definitely made posts since then. Perhaps it just didn’t update… I don’t know.

Still. Yesterday, I went onto campus for my 12:00 Computer Vision class. That was pretty useless really… the only thing I wrote down was the guy’s email address in case I wanted to ask any questions about the assignment. Seeing as I’ve already done a fair part of the assignment (well, the coding at least) then there’s not much I need in that respect. Anyway. Then I went home. Philippa came round in the evening to help Alex dye his hair red, so we had dinner, dyed Alex’s hair and headed onto campus for Cheesy Tunes.

And that was it. Today I went onto campus for my radio show at 2:00, and then headed to a lab to do some work. I’ve got a few statistics and things downloaded (it’s the last assignment for information retrieval and visualisation — woo-hoo!!!) and I’ll probably get some work done on that later and tomorrow.

At 5 I’m going to make like a guillotine and head off in the direction of Philippa’s place, and then we’re going to head into town for the Fordham 18-30s group social. They’re meeting at Pizza Hut for a meal, that should be good. Unfortunately I think most of the student regulars are away this week, but still — pizza is always good 🙂

It’s Phil B’s baptism tomorrow, so I’m going to go up to Norwich to see him. Liz is coming up so I should be able to get a lift with her. It’s just a shame because there’s a student lunch tomorrow at Fordham which quite a lot of people are going to. Oh well, c’est la vie I guess!

    All for now.

  • Good day!

Today was a good day. I went onto campus for my committee meeting at 12:00 today. That actually went very quickly — we’d completely finished by about 1:20, which is very unusual these days. It usually takes at least another half hour! At 1:30 I met Philippa in square 3, and we got the bus into town. We went to the cinema to see “Love Actually”, and then to Yates for dinner, then back onto campus for “washing up” (the CU’s current evangelistic effort) and then home.

Overall, I’d say it was a pretty good day! “Love Actually” was pretty good. Some of the bits were fantastic, and the way it all worked together was quite good. In terms of how all the storylines worked together it reminded me a little bit of League of Gentlemen Series 3, although the sense of humour was totally different. It was a shame that Rowan Atkinson didn’t have a bigger part! Still, I think the storyline with Tim from “The Office” was really good — very funny! And generally a good film, a nice way of spending the afternoon 🙂

Right then. That’s all for now…

  • Right then… first half of this week…

I didn’t get up to much. Some CC361 coursework. Watched the odd DVD, seen Philippa a bit, done stuff…

So now you know. Today is going to be a day of work. At least, when I can be bothered to getting around to actually doing any. That could be anytime…

  • Sunday

Nothing much to update you on. This morning, I went to Church as usual. It was the assistant minister, Andy Saville, speaking on Isaiah. It was very ‘heavy’ — quite intellectual and theological! He did say some very interesting things (for example, about “the” virgin in Isaiah 7 referring to “the” woman in Genesis.)

Anyway. This afternoon I came back home, got the GUI of my Computer Vision assignment working, then went out for a walk, then came back and did some more work (in case you’re interested, got a primitive version of the blob colouring algorithm working). At 7:00 I went to the Black Buoy with Simon and Kev B, we had a nice hour having a quiet drink and chat!

Then back home again, to do some random stuff with Alex and Ash. It’s all good fun! Anyway.

Incidentally, I bought League of Gentlemen series 3 on DVD the other day. It’s not actually that good! I got a faulty copy so I’m returning mine and getting a refund. The problem is, I just kept waiting for the punchline but they were few and far between. It was a lot more based around characters than the last two series were and I don’t think it works as well.

Still, that’s the way it goes. I’ll buy another record or something 🙂

  • The Real Big Friday and Saturday

Or whatever. Yesterday, I went onto campus for my 12:00 class. Then I left, and went back home. Spent the afternoon not doing anything in particular, then I went onto campus then round to Philippa’s. Got there at about 5:30, stayed there until about 7:45 and then left for Waffles for Sharon’s birthday. Sharon is one of Philippa’s old flatmates. That was quite good… stayed there til about 9:00, then left for Cheesy Tunes.

Cheesy Tunes was actually quite good last night, although I just realised how strange it is without some of the old cheesy tunes posse down there (Phil B, Phil P etc). Not many of the second and third years are coming, and only a couple of the first years came. So not the best night I’ve ever had! Was quite enjoyable though.

Anyway. Afterwards, some of us headed to SX Express for a hot chocolate, and then went down to the chaplaincy to watch some random animations on rathergood.com, and then Alex and I headed for home. We eventually got back at about 2:00 this morning!

Then, it was up again this morning, and onto campus for my radio show followed by the CU mix. Three hours in the studio of a Saturday afternoon… it’s quite a long time! I don’t know how I managed to do it so many times last year.

Ah well. Anyway, this evening I might do some work on my computer vision assignment. Or watch a film. Or do some washing up. Or a combination of all three and more. You never know…

  • The Real Thursday

As opposed to that horrible, nasty fake Thursday that I posted about this morning.

Well, I went onto campus for my 12:00 committee meeting. At about 2:45 I finally got around to going to a computer lab do try and avoid doing some work. Something backfired though, and I actually managed to get a good proportion of my CC351 assignment done! Shocking!

Anyway. Then I went for dinner with Philippa at 5:00, and then I went to theology seminar at 6:00. It was very interesting. The guy who spoke was the BBC Essex religious affairs producer. I didn’t really have a problem with what he said until he started talking about… well, basically all religions lead to God. And he told Joe that the gospels only having minor contradictions on unimportant issues was wishful thinking. And that Matthew teaches we should go and sell all our possessions. And the gospels were written by spin-doctors who put their version of the truth on things.

Having said that though, apparently Alex and Philippa had been talking about ‘all religions leading to God’ earlier in the day, they seemed to quite enjoy it. I might have to strongly rebuke them (in Christian love) soon…

Ah, I’ve just been having a weird couple of days. Unfortunately, it’s nothing that I want to talk about on my blog which can potentially be read by anyone who has access to a computer! And of course, if I start using this blog as a platform to air all my personal issues than no-one will want to read it. Actually that’s probably not true, more people will probably want to read it because everyone wants to read about someone else’s problems. I think it makes us feel better, if we know that someone else is having problems as well.

Still, all I have to say is that it’s sorted now. God is a top, uh, deity 🙂

Right. Rock on. And Rithmetic (no wonder the kids of that era couldn’t spell…)

  • Well, well well. President Bush is coming to town…

… and he’s bringing with him some of his friends.

Apparently, he has asked that Central London be shut down for three days for the duration of his visit. This is so that anti-war protesters won’t disrupt things. Uh… to quote Wayne’s World: “Ex-squeeze Me? Baking powder?” Whatever happened to the right to protest? Ah well, that’s one way of making the point that your country is the most powerful in the world in a relatively uncomplicatory mannerisation.

Simon said that perhaps he’d get the day off work. I think he should, and go down there wearing his “Cuba” hoodie and shout abuse. Having said that, he’d probably be taken out by one of Bush’s hitme… I mean, bodyguards. Ah well.

In this immortal words of Blackadder: “And I hope your mother dies in a freak yachting accident”…

  • And stuff

So today (Wednesday) I came on for… Fusion. This evening. I have this vague feeling that I must have done something during the day, but I can’t remember what it was. So not too different to a normal day then…

I met up with Philippa for a drink before Fusion, then went to Fusion, then watched Mallrats with a few people in Andy H’s room (bit of a video night. Well, one film anyway…)

Fusion was good tonight. We were talking about evangelism and it actually turned out to be quite challenging… we were looking at the parable of the sower, and how we should spread seeds indiscriminately. God definitely spoke to me, and I think he spoke to some other people as well. It’s cool! 🙂

  • Right then.

Yesterday. Came onto campus for chaplaincy lunch at 1:00. Went to my Computer Vision lecture, and understood as much as usual (i.e., virtually nothing). Then I went to my lab with Alex, then back home to do some work on my final year project (basically finishing off the deliverable that has to be in tomorrow). Then it was onto campus to meet up with Philippa for a drink in Top Bar before going down to Level 2 for DJ Soc night.

It was actually a really good night, they played a variety of stuff and managed to get a whole bunch of people down there. Really good atmosphere as well, although unfortunately not many people were dancing!

Then this morning, I came in for a bar breakfast at 10:00, except without the bar breakfast bit. I had some cereal before I left, so I just had a pint of orange fanta! That was with Philippa, Alex and Joe. Now I’m sitting in a computer lab… you know, I really hate SSH. The problem is it changes filenames to all lower-case letters. Which is a bit of a problem. For some reason, I’m not quite sure how, it means that if you have a file with the same name (just with a few upper case letters) on the uni computers, then if you upload it via SSH then it won’t actually overwrite it. Well it might do, there seems to be a 50% chance of that happening… what seems to happen is that two files are created, both with the same name, and both of them contain the same data. Whether the data is the data of the old file or the new file seems to be a bit hit and miss. Oh well. I’m now going to print it out and hand it in! The fun we have 🙂

I probably won’t get full marks, but I’m not really worried about that. As long as I get some of the marks that’s what matters! 60% would be quite nice. But a pass would be fine…

  • The Matrix

You know all the theories about the Matrix? Well, they were all wrong. It’s obviously more to do with some kind of unified field theory, ergo: It All Ties Together! (The Matrix Explained).

    Fantastic.
