  • The Weekend

Ok, so, what did I get up to this weekend? Let me try and remember… on Friday evening, Philippa and I went to the Rover’s Tye and met up with Sarah, Jon, Naomi, Luke, Sarah, Matthew, Simon and Kerry as Naomi was up for the weekend. That was a good evening, actually – it was nice to spend an evening with some of the people who I know well from university – reminded me of old times!

On Saturday afternoon, I went into town with Philippa and we bought a DVD player 🙂 It’s not a DVD recorder, it’s just a standard DVD player – I thought about getting a recorder, but thinking about the number of times I’ve watched TV over the past few months it probably wouldn’t be worth it! Afterwards, we popped into Peter and Martina’s house for a house-warming party. We played “Psychiatrist”, which is a very funny game if you get into it! And on Saturday evening we watched “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope”, as I bought the trilogy on DVD a couple of weeks ago.

On Sunday I went to church in the morning (as per usual). Afterwards, Chris Illingworth invited me to dinner along with Simon, Jon & Sarah and Ben. That was a really good time – two in a weekend! That’s almost unheard of 😉

Afterwards, Philippa came round for a bit before going to see Harry Potter with Paul, and I spent most of the evening trying to get my old computer ready for Freevo… rather unsuccessfully, I might add! It didn’t help matters that the internet was out for the whole evening, but still…

  • Bye bye Crossring

Well, I finally sent my e-mail of resignation to Zeth (managing editor of Crossring) yesterday. It was a sad moment, and one that marks the end of an era. I joined Crossring a few years ago as the web assistant, and have been looking after the site ever since!

I think one of the main reasons I have for leaving is the fact that I’m now working in the computer industry, and it’s just too much to do that and then come back home and work on a site. Working on a website that’s already set up is one thing, trying to build a site like Crossring (which involves quite a lot of work) is another.

Speaking of sites that are already built, however – I did agree to oversee the Fordham Church website. It’s using a Content Management System which was already set up… having said that, it doesn’t seem to like Linux / Firefox! I tried updating it yesterday and nothing happened. Ah well, c’est la vie…

  • The Weekend

And, once again, another “The Weekend” post! Excellent!

I haven’t been up to much this weekend, actually. On Friday evening, Philippa came round and we borrowed one of Paul’s DVDs: “Collateral”. It was a pretty good film, quite an unusual role for Tom Cruise but it seemed to work well. Unusual film, but worth watching. Then, on Saturday, we went into town to do a bit of Christmas shopping. I bought a few things, and also got myself the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD!

On Saturday evening I met up with Alex and we got some fish and chips, and then went to Anne-Marie and Esther’s where we watched “The X Factor” followed by “Love Actually”.

Yesterday, I went to Church in the morning, and afterwards was very kindly invited to Simon and Annette’s for lunch (well, I was invited a while ago, but still). Mark Johnston (one of my old lecturers from university), Emily and Chris were also there, so it was good to chat to them and get to know them a bit better!

In the evening I went round to Alex’s for “Chillout night”. Alex, Sarah, Matthew, Elisa and I watched “The Italian Job”, as Alex had picked it up cheaply on DVD recently. It’s always a good film to watch – quite light-hearted, and puts me in a good mood 🙂

And I think that’s all for the time being!

  • Typical!

I work in the country, in that – the place I work is right out in the sticks. Most of the roads on the way there are main roads, but there is one small but not insignificant stretch of road which is a “proper” country road: there are a few points along the road where it’s only wide enough to fit one car.

This morning, I was driving down there, and came across another car coming in the other direction. Unfortunately, they’d happened to pick the only bit of the road where it was really muddy! Now I have a rather muddy car 🙁

    Ah well, c’est la vie.

  • Bwahahahahaha!

Well well well, three holes in the ground… there’s a new version of the excellent Firefox Browser out (version 1.5). It looks like it’s got some nice new features, seems a bit smoother. It’s obvious they put a lot of thought into the design – when I updated, it picked up that one extension I had wasn’t compatible with the new version, gave me a button which searched the ‘net and downloaded a new version of the extension which was compatible. Suck on that, Internet Explorer! Teehee.

There’s also one very useful feature to counteract something I ranted about – people keeping on putting target=”_blank” into their links (not naming any names, Simon):

No longer shall the “new window” link users take away my choice of whether to have the page I’m clicking on display in a new window or not… bwahahahaha!

  • The Scriptures

Sometimes I wonder why I read the Bible. Now, don’t get me wrong, I definitely thing it’s a Good ThingTM to do, but… well, sometimes it’s a bit heavy going. I feel I’m doing it more out of routine than anything else. But then, I come across something that restores my confidence – and more!

I was searching on BibleGateway for something related to a discussion earlier, and came across this:

The LORD your God is with you,
    he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.
    — Zephaniah 3:17

How beautiful is that verse? To be honest, there’s nothing much else I can say… I just felt like posting it up here. I hope you enjoy it 🙂

  • The Weekend

So, what did I get up to this weekend? On Friday evening, I went into Wivenhoe with Alex for a drink at the Black Buoy. It was quite nice actually – the pub was nice and warm, good to go into on a cold evening! Good to catch up with Alex as well, as I haven’t seen him much lately.

On Saturday I didn’t do much during the day… in the evening I went to the chaplaincy film evening. We watched “Dodgeball”, very funny 🙂 It was just Chris J, Sarah, Alison, Alex, Matthew and Ellie there. Afterwards, Alex, Sarah, Alison and I stayed and played a few games with Alex’s eyeToy. That was really good fun — seeing people jump around and wave their arms around without looking at the screen is very amusing…

Yesterday — once again, I didn’t do very much! In the evening Philippa came round after getting back from London, and then we got some pizza and went round to Alex’s to watch “Bill Bailey: Bewilderness”.

And, that just about brings you up to date! All for now…

  • Bronze Age Breaks, December 2005

I’ve done a new mix 🙂 Starts off with some funkier breaks and gets into some more upbeat / nu-skool stuff at the end.

The name, incidentally, is an in-joke from the DJ Source forums!

  • Snow is in the air…

As one of my co-workers remarked yesterday, and as Matthew blogged, “Snow is in the air”. It’s cold. The sky is grey. You can just tell it’s going to snow, sometime…. probably. This is not good news. I don’t mind snow — when you don’t have to be out in it! People who like snow are invariably people who don’t have to drive through it down small country roads and risk life and limb getting into work. Ok that’s probably a slight exaggeration – I wouldn’t risk life and limb to get into work. But still, it isn’t nice having to navigate your way through a heavy fall of snow, especially in the dark.

Anyway. Someone posted up a good website on a forum yesterday: the top 30 facts for Mr. T. On the same website you can also find facts about Vin Diesel and Chuck Norris… I found it funny anyway 🙂

  • The Weekend

Ok, here’s what I’ve been up to this weekend. On Friday evening, Philippa came round for dinner and then we went back to Ipswich to see my parents. We stayed overnight, and came back again on Saturday afternoon. That evening we didn’t do much, just had a relaxing evening in! I think I needed it after last week…

Yesterday, I went to Fordham in the morning. Then I had lunch, and practised the songs I had to play in the evening at the service. The evening service went quite well actually, Andy Saville was speaking about the Da Vinci Code… I haven’t read the book, but I’d heard that it was a load of rubbish. It was interesting hearing about the counter to various ‘claims’ made in the book, and the inaccuracies etc there!

Anyway. Afterwards, Philippa and I went back to mine and ate hot dogs and watched a couple of episodes of “Spaced” (something I haven’t done in a long time, not since the Claremont Road days!)

Right, I think that’s about it from me now anyway.
