  • More than 24 hours back at home now!

Yep, I’ve spent more than 24 hours back at home now! And I’ve quite enjoyed it so far. This afternoon I went into town, I bought three books by Douglas Adams (they were on buy three for the price of two in Waterstones.) Actually the offer was referring to paperback but the 3 for 2 sticker was on a hardback version of all the “Hitch Hiker’s Guide” books so I took it up and it seemed to work! I like it when that happens 🙂

And that’s just about all I did today. Apart from read, obviously. And spend some time on the internet.

I can’t remember mentioning it here (I think I did, but…) I applied for a placement a while ago. I sent them an email yesterday asking what the news was, and they basically said no. Here’s a clip from the email:

Unfortunately at this time, we are looking for someone with more experience in web design, although we were impressed with your work.

They were looking for someone with more experience in web design. I’m a student. I think most of the people who would apply for the placement would be students (given that the email was sent round on the student mailing lists). How much experience do they want? Ah well, typical I guess.

To the employment agencies on Monday, then…

  • … And first day back at home

Yep! Early this afternoon I packed my stuff into the car, and back we came. There’s not much else to say really! I’ve pretty much unpacked everything — I’ve certainly got more than I left with last October!

I guess the main thing is now I have about 300 records, having left with about 80…

Speaking of records and DJing and the like, I’ve just ordered some new speakers. I have a new amp, of course I can’t actually test it until I have the speakers but when I turn it on the lights come on and the ‘fault’ light turns off as it should so no problems there … yet!

Ah, it feels weird being at home. It hasn’t really shown today because I haven’t been home for long, but the pace of home life is so different from the hectic rush of uni life. At uni I’ve got places to go, people to see, work to do (occasionally), and chaplaincy lunches to have. Here, there’s not much. Until I get a job, there’s really nothing for me to do! I’m going to see about getting a job fairly soon — I don’t think the placement I applied for is going to work out, so it’ll be down to the temp agency soon!

The ironic thing is that although home life is so slow, three months can go be incredibly quickly. There are about two months until the contract on my house starts up for next year, and another month until I’m finally going to move in. Only twelve weeks until I go back to uni. That’s only two weeks longer than a term. And terms go by very very quickly…

Anyway, I will bid you goodnight! The only thing I will say is that my blog may not be updated so regularly because of course things don’t happen here as much. I might just save all the news and make a big-ish post once every few days. Not that there’ll be much news to save, it’s a relative thing. Oh well…

  • Last day in Colchester…

Well, this was my last day in Colchester for the time being! I may well come back sometime in the near future, but it won’t be the same. So what did I do? This morning I went onto campus, I met up with Philippa for a drink (and scanned some photos of Megan’s party as well). Becca joined us after a while. It was really nice, the last time I’ll be able to do that especially with Becca for a while! *Phill wipes a tear from his eye*

Anyway! In the afternoon Philippa and I went round to Alex’s to watch “The Empire Strikes Back” followed by dinner in Sizzlers followed by going back to Alex’s to watch “Return of the Jedi” and “Spaceballs”. Mad Welshman Phil joined us for the second two films and Anne-Marie joined us for Spaceballs. Overall it was a good afternoon / evening!

It feels weird. I really shouldn’t be leaving so early! I’m not going to see my friends from here for ages! Having said that, two months or so goes by very quickly, especially if you’re doing the same thing every day or week…

  • Photos!

Ok, I’m rather tired, but you can find all the photos linked to from the photos section. 🙂

Oh, and I recommend Web Album Generator — it’s a really nice piece of free software which makes creating online photo albums a heck of a lot easier!

  • This afternoon

Well, I did manage to get home after all! I headed off at about 4:00 I think, a little bit later than I was planning to! I was just chatting down in the chaplaincy for a while. It’s kinda weird, having to say my summer goodbyes to people already. I’m just really not looking forward to next year — not just having to say goodbye to people over the summer, but having to say goodbye to some people for, well… perhaps life!

That’s it! I’m just going to pretend it doesn’t exist for the time being… I scanned in those photos earlier, all I have to do is just edit them a little bit and upload them. I’ll post when they’re all ready.

I went out to the DJ workshops this evening. That may well be my last time unless I go again before it closes in mid-july. They might go on next year, but if they do it will be with a different guy (Rich, the head person, is leaving for London this summer and although he’ll probably be back he won’t be able to do the workshops).

I had a note through the door from our landlord today, basically saying that he came here to work on the house thinking that everybody had tidied up and left (apart from a couple of people who still have to pick up their stuff from their rooms). He was a bit surprised to find someone obviously living here (i.e., me) and said that the place should be tidied up before we or I go! I agree with him, but he should fear not — it will be tidy by the time I leave!

Right, I think that’s just about it. I might post again a bit later on…

  • I’m getting slack!

I haven’t updated much in the past few days! I think that’s excusable though. Yesterday I went into town to pick up my photos of the summer ball and the house party, they will be up here fairly soon! 🙂

Then I went onto campus to chaplaincy lunch and a meeting about theology seminar, and then to Wivenhoe. I spent the rest of the day there. We watched “Chasing Amy” in the evening. Then I stayed the night (in Naomi’s bed, no less — unfortunately Naomi wasn’t in it at the time).

Then I headed onto campus and I’m updating this blog from the chaplaincy computer. In the chaplaincy with me are Katie, Kev B and Phil P. It’s a crazy mixed-up world.

So that’s udpated you on the past day! Hopefully I’ll have my pictures up by this evening, I’ll try and do that this afternoon. If I ever get home, that is… it’s not looking good for the near future 😉

  • Sunday

Well, that was a fairly busy Sunday! This morning I went to Fordham as usual. It will probably be my last time there for a couple of months! But it was a good service, I enjoyed it. The passage was on Romans 13 — submission to the authorities! It really helped to make things clearer.

Afterwards it was off to Wrabness to have lunch with Simon, Foz, Liz, Katie and Naomi. It was a really good afternoon, we spent time chatting and went out on a boat belonging to one of Simon’s cousins. Although we very nearly ran out of petrol (well, we did, then there was some more in the reserve tank, ran out again, then there was some more…) it was still an enjoyable experience!

Afterwards, I went with Foz to “Kube” which is a Sound-nation style cafe for young people in the Hythe area. It’s run at the community centre. Me, Foz and Andy (from the DJ Workshops) DJd for a while, good stuff!

After that, Foz came back for a while, then I watched a DVD (“Top Secret”, one of the ones I bought the other day). Right, that’s just about it… I think I’m going to go to bed now! I’m very tired…

  • Crossring Meeting

I’ve just had a Crossring team meeting which was fun. I took the minutes on Simon’s laptop. And played Solitaire for a while… 😉

And that’s about all I have to say, woo-hoo! The trip back to Colchester from Ipswich went OK. My records arrived at home this morning, yay! I’ve got some really good stuff. I like the Push mix of Rank 1 – Airwave, and The Gift – Love Angel (which was produced by Push as well) is really good.

Not much else to say now. I’m going to go home in a minute and probably watch a film or something, and then I’m going to go and see Rich.

And that’s it. Thanks to Andy for turning the monitor off and then turning it round on the stand, and to Andy for pressing the right mouse button occasionally when I’ve been making this post. And to Simon for being pedantic and correcting me as I type. Andy wants to know what he is if Simon is pedantic — he asked me if I know how to spell ‘stunning’. Yep, I do. But I also know how to spell ‘darned annoying’ too… and of course ‘having a high opinion of oneself’…

  • Going home overnight…

Just to let you know that I’m going home overnight so chances are I probably won’t get around to updating before tomorrow afternoon!

This morning I didn’t do much. Went into town, bought a couple of DVDs and a couple of small audio bits. Nothing much really! Last night I spent watching some Blackadder and packing, as well as just chatting to people on MSN. It’s amazing how much junk you manage to accumulate! I’ve got loads of paperwork which just seems to have multiplied since I moved in.

I’m quite glad that I’m not staying in this place next year as well — at least with moving your stuff you can strip it down to the minimum when you move into the next place! I’m going round now to see Matthew, as he’s going home this afternoon for the summer. Then I’m going to drive back to Ipswich, stay the night there and come back here by train tomorrow. We’ve having a Crossring meeting tomorrow, there’s going to be a site revamp over the summer (hopefully) and it’s looking good for the site!

Right. I’m off now, be back soon…

  • Summer House Party

Well, I’ve just got back from the summer house party! I’m pretty tired at the moment, so I won’t say much. It was a good week of fellowship, fun and good teaching provided by Mike Neville! I really enjoyed it, fantastic time. I do have some photos so hopefully they will be developed by next week, and I’ll be able to scan them in and put them on the website.

Nothing much else to say really! I’m going to just relax for the rest of the evening, maybe watch some blackadder, then head off to bed…
